Head of the Administration for Countering Organized Crime of the Republic of Srpska Ministry of the Interior, Milosav Savkovic, opened today in Banja Luka a three-day workshop ’New psychoactive substances (NPS): legal and investigative perspectives’, with emphasis on collection of evidence, EU practice and legislation, which is organized by the Republic of Srpska Ministry of the Interior with the assistance by the Technical Assistance and Information Exchange Instrument of the European Commission – TAIEX. 
 Mr Savkovic said that this year they seized 370 kg of marijuana, 1.7 kg of cocaine, 1.2 kilograms of heroin and certain amounts of other narcotics, and that the RS Ministry of the Interior organized 10 actions this year.
While discussing new drugs, Mr Savkovic reminded that the RS MoI recently detected certain amount of a new drug – ice, pointing out that in 2015 and 2016 they identified four such psychoactive substances. Following the detection of NPS, they suggest the competent BiH bodies to place them on the List of narcotics. He added that the new narcotics most often come from the Eastern Europe market, and that we have no knowledge of such drugs being produced in our country or in the region.
The President of the Commission for the Suppression of Drug Abuse in the Republic of Srpska, Mr Milan Latinovic, said that their objective was to raise awareness on the harmful effects of drugs, especially among the young. He pointed out the shocking information that 5% of children up to 15 years of age had contact with drugs.
The attendees of the workshop include representatives of police agencies and authorities across BiH, as well as experts in the region.
